The press in Mahathir's reign has been the laughing stock of media-smart people in this country for a long time. Among them are some 'oldies' in the NST and Utusan. In my opinion, quite a number of them in the media have no self dignity or self respect but has very thick skin. They have no feeling for the word shame. Their number one worry is the word 'Islam' or anything near that word. They justify everything on earth for the sake supporting Mahathir, not the country.

The worst are those 'thick-skinned' media people in The Sun who recently had their comrades labelled 'irresponsible' for reporting a so-called plot to kill the PM and the DPM. The Editor has told the Malay Mail that he stood by his stories and that he has made contacts with a deputy minister and a deputy press secretary before sending the stories for printing. Yet the paper is being blamed for misreporting and by the PM himself.

What has happened to the deputy minister and the deputy press secretary? And the very worst is when journalists in The Sun picketed for the rights of their colleagues whom they feel were being victimised, it was not even reported in their newspaper. That is what we call press freedom — Mahathir's version. A newspaper not reporting about the problem of their very own newsmen, my God, Malaysia Really Boleh.
