Bakri Musa's article 'Lessons from the Grik tragedy' (Jan 4), is a good reminder of Malaysian concerns at the time the heist occurred.

The trial of the Al-Maunah, the Sept 11 tragedy and our own government's paranoia of terrorist attacks have lulled us to some of the critical concerns about security safety which in the first place was not secured by the state.

This is the real tragedy which the state has as always skillfully obscured from public demands of accountability.

We need to know what kind of actions (beyond 'rounding up the usual suspects under ISA' syndrome) or concrete security measures are undertaken by the defence and home ministers in view of the heist.

We need to know if the Defence Ministry has been taken to task by the government or parliament.

This is the accountability we require of our leaders.
