I was at a funfair at SRJK (C) Ampang yesterday. There were so many stalls operating but the rubbish was also scattered around the school.

I find the school showed little care for cleanliness for the environment. There was no proper waste bins for trash or recycle bins for the visitors to recycle their trash.

I saw a recycle bin in front of school gate, but I found none in the school area and nobody was actually recycling although I saw a banner urging people to recycle.

There were stalls selling shopping bags to encourage people not to use plastic bags. Yet all around, food and drinks were still being sold in plastic bags. What then is the point of pushing the shopping bags?

A school should be a better place to educate our children about environmental issues and to promote the concept of the 3Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle. Perhaps the school isn’t making the effort.

The school’s syllabus incorporates the 3Rs topi so why is the school still holding events in such an unsustainable manner?

My fiancée is a kindergarten teacher-cum-tuition teacher and we are setting up a recycling corner in our house for our students and to raise awareness.

When I can do it on my own, why can’t the schools?
