I have often written about social issues in the past, but have recently moved on to economics where the facts are clearly bordered on statistics and figures. Salaries and wages, household incomes and gross domestic product (GDP) per capita ratios have basically made me far removed from being the emotive columnist I started off more than a decade before.

I decided to take a break from the socioeconomics involved in Budget 2015 in order to look at just the social issues for once. And honestly, it was a huge mistake on my part.

So Selangor now has a menteri besar and he is not a woman. Azmin Ali has been chosen and has accepted the post by appointment of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor and PKR is now saying it is “disappointed” with the palace’s treatment of its president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The Home Affairs Ministry, as far as I know, is to be tasked with defending the nation’s borders against all enemies of a military nature either foreign or domestic.

Referring to the recent statement made by the Malaysian Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) that the ride-sharing company Uber needs to obey the law, I strongly agree with the sentiment. However, I do not believe that the solution is to declare it illegal.

The question above is one that I think many would ask if they wouldn’t be attacked by its supporters for asking. As for myself, I’ll just ask anyway. Why form another non-government organisation (NGO) targeting unity in the form of Negara-Ku?

First and foremost, I am a third generation constitutional Malaysian Malay Muslim, as far as I can tell from my secondary school history project I did in 1996. That being said, there are those who may have a history of their ancestors and families living in this nation longer than I have.
